You can hear the double-takes from here. The Texans took Jonah Coleman at slot 59, roughly 36 spots before his name belonged. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B-.
Fields falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped edge rusher, which is a strange place to end up. Running back was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
The trenches got the money picks, top to bottom.
Good work on the whole, with edge rusher the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 28 they get a blindside protector, outstanding value to boot.
Blake Miller at Round 2, Pick 6 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. It fills a real need, too.
A real head-scratcher, Jonah Coleman in pick 59 is miles ahead of his ranking. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Christen Miller in the Round 3 slot. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
They will replay Malachi Fields at No. 106 for years; that is how good the value is. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Will Lee III slid further than he should have, and slot 141 is lovely value for the cornerback. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Demond Claiborne in No. 167 is fair value, right on his grade. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Xavier Nwankpa at slot 243 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A minor itch, scratched.
