You can hear the double-takes from here. The Packers took Trevin Wallace at the 169th overall pick, roughly 64 spots before his name belonged. It nets out to a B-, which feels about right.
With quarterback, wide receiver and other spots unsolved, spending premium capital on safety is the choice that costs them. That Bishop pick is the receipt they will wave around later.
They punted on quarterback, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. The roster is better shaped than it was, with edge rusher chief among the fixes.
Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
Jordan Morgan in the 39th pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
The board had cheaper options than Edgerrin Cooper at pick 41, and it noticed. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
They took Kingsley Suamataia at par in the Round 2 slot, which is nothing to complain about. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Marshawn Kneeland at pick No. 73 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Fair-plus on Jaden Hicks, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Trey Benson in Round 3, Pick 32. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Hard to square with the roster. With positions of obvious need still on the board, Cole Bishop adds a safety and leaves quarterback, wide receiver and other spots untouched.
Jarrian Jones in pick 132 is fair value, right on his grade. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Nice patience on Kitan Oladapo, who had no business lasting to the 166th overall pick. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
A real head-scratcher, Trevin Wallace in the Round 5 slot is miles ahead of his ranking. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
Garret Greenfield at slot 202 is a conviction pick that outran the value. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Josh Wallace. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
A straight-up fair deal on Jalen Sundell at pick No. 245, value and slot in agreement. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
They paid sticker price for Tyrice Knight in No. 255, and that is fine. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
