You build a draft on nights like this. Keagen Trost had no business being available in Round 6, Pick 29, and the Bills did the only sane thing and turned in the card. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B.
They punted on interior defensive lineman, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. They left with linebacker solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
Good work on the whole, with interior defensive lineman the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 29 they get a sideline-to-sideline linebacker at a price that makes it sweeter. The biggest hole, addressed.
Ja'Kobi Lane in the 91st overall pick is fair value, right on his grade. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Sam Hecht at pick 109 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Davison Igbinosun slipping to slot 126 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
They paid sticker price for Caleb Douglas in the Round 5 slot, and that is fine. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
No drama and no debate, Aamil Wagner went about where he belonged in pick No. 168. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Bryce Boettcher at No. 182. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
You do not let an offensive lineman like Keagen Trost reach the 210th pick and blink. They did not. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They took Jimmy Rolder at par in slot 220, which is nothing to complain about. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
