The 49ers did not reach, did not trade up, did not blink. They just waited, and Sam Roush fell into the Round 4 slot.
The dealing alone would carry a lesser class. They will answer for taking safety early while quarterback, edge rusher and other spots went begging.
The quarterback hole is the one line item this class does not answer. They will need Zuhn III to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it.
All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 31 they get a cornerstone up front, even if it was a touch early. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
No edge and no loss on Christen Miller in Round 2, Pick 26; it is a wash and a sensible one. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
They will replay Michael Taaffe at pick No. 92 for years; that is how good the value is. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Malik Muhammad in No. 95 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A minor itch, scratched.
Trey Zuhn III at the 109th overall pick is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
A reach on Parker Brailsford in the Round 4 slot; the board had better options right there. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Steal is underselling it; Sam Roush at pick 127 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
A want over a need in the 133rd pick: Bishop Fitzgerald adds a safety while quarterback, edge rusher and other spots keeps waiting.
The needs board was loud and they turned it down, spending pick 138 on Will Lee III with quarterback, edge rusher and other spots unsolved.
They paid up for Kaytron Allen at slot 139 when waiting would have done the job. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
CJ Daniels is a better player than Round 5, Pick 12 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Isaiah World at pick No. 154 is the proof. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
