San Francisco 49ers

The 49ers won the night they stopped Singleton from sliding. Grade: B-.

The 49ers did not reach, did not trade up, did not blink. They just waited, and Nicholas Singleton fell into Round 4, Pick 33.

The wide receiver spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. The Iheanachor pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. They left with offensive lineman solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.

The trenches got the money picks, top to bottom.

In sum, a sensible class that nudges the roster the right way.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.27 · Pick 27 · Max Iheanachor · OT · rank 47
Max Iheanachor at No. 27 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
R2.26 · Pick 58 · LT Overton · DE-EDGE · rank 66
They paid a round early for LT Overton in the 58th pick, more than the board wanted. The roster fit checks out.
R4.27 · Pick 127 · Jalen Farmer · OG · rank 109
Circle this one: Jalen Farmer at the Round 4 slot is a fall that decides a draft. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
R4.33 · Pick 133 · Nicholas Singleton · RB · rank 113
They will replay Nicholas Singleton at pick No. 133 for years; that is how good the value is. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
R4.38 · Pick 138 · Will Lee III · CB · rank 126
They read the board right and Will Lee III was the payoff at Round 4, Pick 38. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
R4.39 · Pick 139 · Justin Joly · TE · rank 122
Justin Joly at pick 139 is money in the bank, a tight end taken below his worth. A need, and now a little less of one.
