You build a draft on nights like this. Max Klare had no business being available in pick No. 108, and the Broncos did the only sane thing and turned in the card. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B-.
For all the activity, edge rusher went untouched, which is hard to explain. If Kelly pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about. Job largely done: linebacker settled and 4 of 8 of the wish list covered.
A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
No edge and no loss on Antonio Williams in the 62nd pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. The roster fit checks out.
Steal is underselling it; Max Klare at pick No. 108 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
They did well to land Darrell Jackson Jr. in slot 111, just ahead of his grade. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
They took Albert Regis at par in the 170th overall pick, which is nothing to complain about. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Eli Heidenreich in No. 246 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Andre Fuller at the Round 7 slot is money in the bank, a cornerback taken below his worth. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Jack Kelly at Round 7, Pick 41 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
