For all the names on the card, the loudest question went unanswered. The Cardinals walked out of the weekend still thin at quarterback, a hole that has a way of deciding seasons. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B.
Getting Haulcy where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class. If Schrauth pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about.
Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 3rd pick they get protection for the quarterback. The biggest hole, addressed.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Colton Hood at slot 34. A minor itch, scratched.
They let A.J. Haulcy come to them and pounced at the Round 3 slot. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Billy Schrauth at pick No. 104 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
DeMonte Capehart at pick 143 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the interior defensive lineman. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Cyrus Allen in Round 6, Pick 2 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
A reach on Jimmy Rolder in the 217th overall pick; the board had better options right there. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
