Somebody in Round 6, Pick 23 was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Chargers sat still while Reggie Virgil, the No. 169 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium.
They will regret leaving edge rusher for another day if the season turns on it. They left with interior defensive lineman solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.
Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 22nd overall pick they get a pocket-collapsing interior rusher. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
A quiet steal in Round 2, Pick 23: Emmanuel McNeil-Warren for less than the market said. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
They let Keylan Rutledge come to them and pounced at pick 86. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
A tight end of that caliber at pick No. 123 is the definition of value, full stop. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Reggie Virgil at slot 204 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
