You could see the war room lean forward. Reggie Virgil at the 204th pick is the sort of fall that does not happen, except it just did.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped edge rusher, which is a strange place to end up. They left with interior defensive lineman solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off. Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.
In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 22 they get a wrecking ball inside. The biggest hole, addressed.
The board had Emmanuel McNeil-Warren higher than the 55th overall pick, and the safety fell to them anyway. It adds depth where they could use a little.
A slide stopped in the Round 3 slot, with Keylan Rutledge worth more than the price. A need, and now a little less of one.
They will replay Sam Roush at No. 123 for years; that is how good the value is. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Reggie Virgil in the 204th pick is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
