When a board-topper like Josh Cameron slides to the 214th pick, you do not overthink it, and the Colts did not. Call it a sensible B-, earned the boring way.
They will regret leaving quarterback for another day if the season turns on it. The Muhammad pick is fine in a vacuum, less so with quarterback, offensive lineman and other spots still on the board. They left with wide receiver solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but quarterback.
Pick-by-Pick
D'Angelo Ponds in the 47th pick is fair value, right on his grade. It adds depth where they could use a little.
A straight-up fair deal on Deontae Lawson at the Round 3 slot, value and slot in agreement. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
The needs board was loud and they turned it down, spending pick No. 113 on Malik Muhammad with quarterback, offensive lineman and other spots unsolved.
They read the board right and Kaytron Allen was the payoff at pick 156. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Josh Cameron in No. 214 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A tidy little value on Xavier Nwankpa in Round 7, Pick 33, a step better than break-even. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Steal is underselling it; Miles Kitselman at the 254th overall pick is a heist with the alarm still ringing. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
