Somewhere a general manager is explaining how Josh Cameron got past him. The Colts do not have to explain a thing at the 214th pick.
They punted on quarterback, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. It is not that Muhammad is a bad player; it is that the Colts had louder needs to answer first.
Wide receiver was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.
Pick-by-Pick
By-the-book stuff, D'Angelo Ponds at pick 47 squarely in line with his ranking. A minor itch, scratched.
A straight-up fair deal on Deontae Lawson at the 78th overall pick, value and slot in agreement. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
They bypassed pressing needs at quarterback, offensive lineman and other spots to take Malik Muhammad, a cornerback that was not the priority.
A quiet steal in pick No. 156: Kaytron Allen for less than the market said. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
They will replay Josh Cameron at the 214th pick for years; that is how good the value is. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Xavier Nwankpa at the Round 7 slot is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the safety. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
They robbed the room for Miles Kitselman here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
