Call it a hunch or call it a gamble, but the Cowboys spent No. 152 on Nyjalik Kelly, a name most had 61 spots down the list.
They will regret leaving cornerback for another day if the season turns on it. Sarratt at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster.
Wide receiver was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but cornerback.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 12 they get a three-down runner, and a steal at that. A real need, handled.
In No. 20 they get a double-digit-sack hope, even if it was a touch early. More want than need.
A quiet steal in Round 3, Pick 28: Elijah Sarratt for less than the market said. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Keyshaun Elliott in slot 112 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Nyjalik Kelly at pick No. 152 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
A reach on DJ Campbell in the 177th overall pick; the board had better options right there. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Zane Durant in pick 180 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Dalton Johnson at No. 218 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. It adds depth where they could use a little.
