If confidence were a draft strategy, the Dolphins would have aced it. Carson Beck at Round 2, Pick 11 is 78 spots clear of where he belonged. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B-.
Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Slaughter. They punted on edge rusher, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. Quarterback is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
The offense got the lion's share of the attention.
Good work on the whole, with edge rusher the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 11 they get a building block for the line, reach and all.
In the 30th pick they get a downhill hitter at safety at fair value. More want than need.
They reached into another round for Carson Beck, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Circle this one: Jacob Rodriguez at Round 3, Pick 11 is a fall that decides a draft. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
The board had Dontay Corleone higher than pick No. 87, and the interior defensive lineman fell to them anyway. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Daylen Everette at the 90th overall pick nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Jake Slaughter at pick 94 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
They let Michael Trigg come to them and pounced at the 130th pick. A need, and now a little less of one.
No edge and no loss on Rayshaun Benny in the 151st overall pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
A wide receiver of that caliber at Round 7, Pick 11 is the definition of value, full stop. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
They took Noah Whittington at par in the Round 7 slot, which is nothing to complain about. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
