The weekend has a hole in the middle of it named safety, a need the Giants walked right past.
The Gusta pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Hecht.
Interior defensive lineman is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it. The trenches got the money picks, top to bottom.
A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 5 they get a blindside protector at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
They took Omar Cooper Jr. at par in the 37th overall pick, which is nothing to complain about. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A tidy bit of business in Round 4, Pick 5, where Sam Hecht graded well above the range. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Oscar Delp slipping to pick 145 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Bryce Boettcher at the Round 6 slot. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Kobe Baynes. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They talked themselves into David Gusta at slot 193, and the board did not agree. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
