They finally answered the question that shadows every other one. Ty Simpson is the Jets' quarterback, full stop.
They will regret leaving interior defensive lineman for another day if the season turns on it. Reaching for Pavia left real value on the table behind him.
They banked enough surplus on Wheatley to cover a lot of smaller sins.
A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 2 they get a disruptor off the edge at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
In the Round 1 slot they get their quarterback of the future, even if it was a touch early. The biggest hole, addressed.
No edge and no loss on Denzel Boston in Round 2, Pick 1; it is a wash and a sensible one. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
CJ Allen slid further than he should have, and pick No. 44 is lovely value for the linebacker. A minor itch, scratched.
Zakee Wheatley in No. 103 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
A slide stopped in the 140th pick, with Joe Royer worth more than the price. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Domani Jackson at the 179th overall pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
They let Chase Roberts come to them and pounced at pick 228. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
They jumped the gun on Diego Pavia, taking him earlier than his grade liked. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
