The best pick of the weekend was also the simplest. The Packers watched Connor Lew slide 36 picks past his grade and did not hesitate. It does the job without flash, and the B- reflects it.
That edge rusher hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. If Kilgore pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about.
On the needs board they went 6 of 8, with cornerback the one that mattered most.
In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.
Pick-by-Pick
A tidy bit of business in Round 2, Pick 20, where Caleb Banks graded well above the range. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Jalon Kilgore at pick No. 84 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Taking Connor Lew in pick 120 is close to grand larceny; an offensive lineman that good had no business lasting this long. A need, and now a little less of one.
A reach on Kage Casey in the 153rd pick; the board had better options right there. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, CJ Daniels at the Round 5 slot. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
A quiet steal in slot 201: Seth McGowan for less than the market said. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Aiden Fisher in No. 236 is fair value, right on his grade. A minor itch, scratched.
John Michael Gyllenborg slid further than he should have, and the 255th overall pick is lovely value for the tight end. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
