You can hear the double-takes from here. The Rams took Austin Barber at Round 2, Pick 29, roughly 51 spots before his name belonged.
The Wetjen pick alone nudges the whole weekend up a notch. They will regret leaving interior defensive lineman for another day if the season turns on it. Wide receiver is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
The back end got a real overhaul.
Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 13 they get an island corner. Need was not the driver here.
Value said wait; Austin Barber in the Round 2 slot says they were not listening. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
They liked Genesis Smith enough to skip the value, taking him in No. 93. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
They jumped the gun on Sawyer Robertson, taking him earlier than his grade liked. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Value with a capital V on Riley Nowakowski in slot 232, a genuine coup. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
A straight-up fair deal on Robert Henry Jr. at the 251st pick, value and slot in agreement. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Kaden Wetjen at the 252nd overall pick is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
