You could see the war room lean forward. Anthony Hill Jr. at pick No. 66 is the sort of fall that does not happen, except it just did. A dependable weekend that grades out a B.
They punted on running back, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. The cost of the Barrett reach is exactly the players who went right after him.
On the needs board they went 6 of 8, with offensive lineman the one that mattered most.
Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get juice off the edge. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Chris Brazzell II at Round 2, Pick 3 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the wide receiver. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Anthony Hill Jr. in slot 66 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It fills a real need, too.
They robbed the room for Davison Igbinosun here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Parker Brailsford at the 142nd overall pick is the proof. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Jakobe Thomas in pick No. 144 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. It adds depth where they could use a little.
They will replay Nate Boerkircher at No. 184 for years; that is how good the value is. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Nick Barrett at pick 194 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A tidy bit of business in the Round 7 slot, where Harrison Wallace III graded well above the range. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
