The Packers went off the board in a big way for Roger Rosengarten, 47 picks early. Conviction is one thing; this is another. Good, not great, and the B says as much.
They will regret leaving edge rusher for another day if the season turns on it. On value alone, Rouse makes the weekend a net positive. They squeezed a little extra out of every move they made.
All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 19 they get an island corner at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
Cooper DeJean is a better player than Round 2, Pick 9 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
They let Keon Coleman come to them and pounced at the Round 2 slot. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
They reached into another round for Roger Rosengarten, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
The board had Max Melton higher than the 91st pick, and the cornerback fell to them anyway. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
A slide stopped in the 120th overall pick, with Audric Estime worth more than the price. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Nothing to complain about; Marist Liufau went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. A minor itch, scratched.
Walter Rouse in Round 6, Pick 10 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
JD Bertrand at the Round 6 slot is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
