The Packers went off the board in a big way for Sam Hartman, 56 picks early. Conviction is one thing; this is another. Call it a sensible B, earned the boring way.
If one pick saves this weekend, it is Benson. A whole weekend of picks and edge rusher is somehow still a want.
The roster is better shaped than it was, with cornerback chief among the fixes. They reloaded the coverage unit in bulk.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the edge rusher spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a sticky cover corner. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
They will replay Quinyon Mitchell at pick 41 for years; that is how good the value is. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
A top-tier offensive lineman at a bargain, Jordan Morgan in slot 58, plain and simple. The roster fit checks out.
Jaden Hicks at pick No. 88 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. A minor itch, scratched.
No edge and no loss on Dominick Puni in the 91st overall pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Trey Benson in the 126th pick should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Marist Liufau at pick No. 169 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
A wild overpay on Sam Hartman in the Round 6 slot, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
No drama and no debate, Jordan Magee went about where he belonged in Round 6, Pick 44. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Edefuan Ulofoshio at slot 245. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
They paid sticker price for Ryan Watts in No. 255, and that is fine. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
