Nobody else had Jalen Milroe anywhere near No. 16. The Cardinals did, by 79 spots, and that gap is the whole story.
The trade table is where this weekend went wrong. Everything downstream of Jalen Milroe depends on Jalen Milroe, and the building knows it. A whole weekend of picks and tight end is somehow still a want.
Landing Walker that late papers over a lot of smaller sins.
There is no soft landing here; this class has to massively overperform just to matter.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 16 they get a long-term answer under center, though the board says they badly overpaid. Exactly the need they had to hit.
You do not let a linebacker like Jalon Walker reach the Round 2 slot and blink. They did not. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
They paid up for Xavier Restrepo at the 50th overall pick when waiting would have done the job. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Quinshon Judkins slid further than he should have, and pick No. 78 is lovely value for the running back. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Nice patience on Maxwell Hairston, who had no business lasting to slot 82. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
They talked themselves into Jah Joyner at pick 114, and the board did not agree. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
They let Logan Brown come to them and pounced at the 153rd overall pick. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
