Every other box got a look, but running back did not. The Bears will head to camp with the same hole they walked in with.
They will need Benson to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. Job largely done: edge rusher settled and 4 of 8 of the wish list covered. The trenches got the money picks, top to bottom.
Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.
Pick-by-Pick
Dillon Thieneman at the Round 1 slot jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Derrick Moore in the 57th pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
A tidy little value on Christen Miller in No. 60, a step better than break-even. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
A straight-up fair deal on Sam Hecht at the 89th overall pick, value and slot in agreement. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
They jumped the gun on Malik Benson, taking him earlier than his grade liked. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
No edge and no loss on Trey Zuhn III in pick No. 239; it is a wash and a sensible one. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Bryce Foster at Round 7, Pick 25 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It fills a real need, too.
