New York Jets

The Jets got the worse of every deal, and it shows in the C+.

The Jets torched the value chart for Drew Allar, taking him 48 spots sooner than anyone had him slotted.

They handed away value on the phones that the picks cannot earn back. They banked enough surplus on Fields to cover a lot of smaller sins. For all the activity, offensive lineman went untouched, which is hard to explain.

If Sonny Styles and a couple of the gambles land, hindsight will be kinder than this grade.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.16 · Pick 16 · Sonny Styles · LB · rank 21
A market-rate linebacker, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Sonny Styles. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
R1.28 · Pick 28 · Chris Brazzell II · WR · rank 29
In slot 28 they get a go-to option on the outside at fair value. A real need, handled.
R2.1 · Pick 33 · R Mason Thomas · DE-EDGE · rank 33
A straight-up fair deal on R Mason Thomas at pick 33, value and slot in agreement. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
R2.6 · Pick 38 · Brandon Cisse · CB · rank 36
No edge and no loss on Brandon Cisse in the 38th pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
R2.12 · Pick 44 · A.J. Haulcy · S · rank 49
A.J. Haulcy in No. 44 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
R2.30 · Pick 62 · Caleb Banks · DL · rank 41
The board fumbled Caleb Banks all the way to the 62nd overall pick, and they scooped it up. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
R4.3 · Pick 103 · Malachi Fields · WR · rank 73
They barely believed it either: Malachi Fields still on the board at the 103rd overall pick. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
R4.8 · Pick 108 · Drew Allar · QB · rank 156
They reached into another round for Drew Allar, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
R4.40 · Pick 140 · Chris McClellan · DT · rank 141
They paid sticker price for Chris McClellan in pick 140, and that is fine. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
R5.39 · Pick 179 · Jadon Canady · CB · rank 209
They talked themselves into Jadon Canady at No. 179, and the board did not agree. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
R7.12 · Pick 228 · Eli Heidenreich · WR · rank 233
Eli Heidenreich at the Round 7 slot is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
R7.26 · Pick 242 · Josh Moten · CB · rank 263
They left a pile of value on the table to take Josh Moten this early at slot 242. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
