You could see the war room lean forward. Sataoa Laumea at No. 173 is the sort of fall that does not happen, except it just did. More right than wrong, and a B- to match.
They are betting Johnson proves the room right and everyone else wrong. The tight end spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. Wide receiver was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
In sum, a sensible class that nudges the roster the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 32nd pick they get a long-term starter on the line at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing DJ James in Round 2, Pick 32. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
By-the-book stuff, Brenden Rice at pick 95 squarely in line with his ranking. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
