The Patriots did not reach, did not trade up, did not blink. They just waited, and Jack Bech fell into the 121st overall pick.
For all the activity, edge rusher went untouched, which is hard to explain. It is a bet on later, and a defensible one for a team playing the long game. Wide receiver is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a No. 1 receiver at a price that makes it sweeter. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Tyler Warren in pick 38 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Aireontae Ersery in pick No. 54. It fills a real need, too.
Quinshon Judkins slid further than he should have, and slot 77 is lovely value for the running back. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Nothing to complain about; Barrett Carter went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Charles Grant at the 105th overall pick is money in the bank, a offensive lineman taken below his worth. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
The board fumbled Sebastian Castro all the way to the 117th pick, and they scooped it up. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Somehow Jack Bech was still sitting there in No. 121, and they pounced on premier wide receiver value. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
