The phones were a trap the Cowboys kept walking into, shipping out surplus on nearly every deal. Put together, it is a D-.
They have staked the next five years on Caleb Williams, which is the only story that really matters here. Landing Dixon that late papers over a lot of smaller sins.
They punted on linebacker, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. The Thomas Jr. reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade.
Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 3 they get their guy under center for the next decade. A real need, handled.
In the Round 1 slot they get a true top target, a steep price for the projection. Exactly the need they had to hit.
In the 24th pick they get an anchor for the offensive line at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
They paid sticker price for Chris Braswell in Round 2, Pick 5, and that is fine. A minor itch, scratched.
Jonathon Brooks in the 39th overall pick is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
No edge and no loss on Zach Frazier in pick 56; it is a wash and a sensible one. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
They let Devontez Walker come to them and pounced at pick No. 87. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
McKinnley Jackson at slot 122 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It fills a real need, too.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Sione Vaki at the 174th pick is the proof. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
They barely believed it either: Johnny Dixon still on the board at slot 244. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
