After circling the position for what felt like forever, the Falcons committed. Michael Penix Jr. is the quarterback now, and the roster gets built to his timeline.
The Mettauer reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade. For all the activity, interior defensive lineman went untouched, which is hard to explain.
The Smith pick is fine in a vacuum, less so with interior defensive lineman, running back and other spots still on the board. They banked enough surplus on Fisher to cover a lot of smaller sins.
Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 8 they get the arm they will build around. Exactly the need they had to hit.
A tidy little value on Adonai Mitchell in pick 43, a step better than break-even. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
A surprising call. With interior defensive lineman, running back and other spots still to address, they spent the Round 3 slot on Maason Smith, a DT-EDGE they were not short of.
A slide stopped in slot 116, with Blake Fisher worth more than the price. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
By-the-book stuff, Cole Bishop at No. 145 squarely in line with his ranking. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Michael Barrett in the 189th pick is fair value, right on his grade. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
A conviction pick on Sheridan Jones at the 205th overall pick that the board grades a round light. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Value said wait; Dorian Singer in Round 7, Pick 17 says they were not listening. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
McKade Mettauer at pick No. 248 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
