The war room fell hard for Justin Rogers, and it showed at pick 158: 36 picks ahead of a board that had other ideas.
The phones were where this weekend was really won. They will regret leaving quarterback for another day if the season turns on it. On value alone, Verse makes the weekend a net positive.
Good work on the whole, with quarterback the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
A tidy bit of business in the 25th pick, where Jared Verse graded well above the range. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Zach Frazier at the Round 2 slot is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It fills a real need, too.
Ja'Lynn Polk slipping to slot 82 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Jaden Hicks at Round 3, Pick 24 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
A reach on Christian Mahogany in pick 88; the board had better options right there. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Cam Hart at No. 108. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Mason McCormick at the 129th overall pick is a conviction pick that outran the value. A need, and now a little less of one.
They talked themselves into Justin Rogers at the Round 5 slot, and the board did not agree. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
They paid up for Logan Lee at pick No. 196 when waiting would have done the job. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Garret Greenfield at No. 209 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
No edge and no loss on Evan Williams in slot 213; it is a wash and a sensible one. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
Tanner McLachlan slid further than he should have, and Round 6, Pick 42 is lovely value for the tight end. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
