When the story of this class is written, it opens with Tyreak Sapp at pick No. 138, a reach of 126 spots that the board flatly disagrees with. It does the job without flash, and the B- reflects it.
The Skattebo value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere. Leaving quarterback unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
Adding Brian Burns by trade rounds out the weekend beyond the rookies. The future picks help the war chest more than the win-now roster.
All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 4 they get a potential shutdown corner. More want than need.
Tyler Booker at No. 35 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Isaiah Bond in the 36th pick is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Xavier Watts in pick No. 66 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Hollin Pierce in Round 3, Pick 3, miles early. It fills a real need, too.
A wild overpay on Tyreak Sapp in slot 138, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Cam Skattebo in the Round 7 slot should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Thor Griffith this early at slot 220. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
