You can fall in love with a player. You are not supposed to marry him in the wrong round. The 49ers did exactly that with Jalen Farmer in No. 58.
The Roush pick alone nudges the whole weekend up a notch. For all the activity, wide receiver went untouched, which is hard to explain.
The roster is better shaped than it was, with offensive lineman chief among the fixes.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but wide receiver.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 27 they get a cornerstone up front at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Jalen Farmer this early at slot 58. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Sam Roush in Round 4, Pick 27 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A need, and now a little less of one.
A straight-up fair deal on Harold Perkins Jr. at pick No. 133, value and slot in agreement. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Value with a capital V on Will Lee III in the 138th overall pick, a genuine coup. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
J.C. Davis in the 139th pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
