The Bears did not so much draft Caden Curry as overpay for him, 70 picks clear of his grade. It sets an uneasy tone for the weekend. It lands right in the middle: a C+, no more, no less.
The Pregnon pick alone nudges the whole weekend up a notch. The interior defensive lineman spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. The roster is better shaped than it was, with edge rusher chief among the fixes.
The trenches got the money picks, top to bottom.
If Gabe Jacas and a couple of the gambles land, hindsight will be kinder than this grade.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 25th pick they get a double-digit-sack hope, though the board says they badly overpaid. The biggest hole, addressed.
Emmanuel Pregnon in slot 57 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. The roster fit checks out.
Value said wait; Caden Curry in Round 2, Pick 28 says they were not listening. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
By-the-book stuff, Ted Hurst at pick 89 squarely in line with his ranking. It fills a real need, too.
A slide stopped in the 129th overall pick, with Billy Schrauth worth more than the price. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Tyler Onyedim at No. 239 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
They reached into another round for Jack Pyburn, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
