The Lions spent real capital to be 66 picks early on Kalil Alexander, and the board is going to hold them to it. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B-.
They banked enough surplus on Trost to cover a lot of smaller sins. For all the activity, linebacker went untouched, which is hard to explain. Cornerback is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
The trenches got the money picks, top to bottom.
Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 17 they get a quarterback's worst nightmare, though the board says they badly overpaid. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Keionte Scott in pick No. 50 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
A top-tier offensive lineman at a bargain, Logan Jones in the 118th overall pick, plain and simple. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
They took Jude Bowry at par in No. 128, which is nothing to complain about. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
They did well to land Skyler Gill-Howard in the Round 5 slot, just ahead of his grade. A minor need, but a need all the same.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Dalton Johnson this early at pick 181. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Somehow Ephesians Prysock was still sitting there in the 205th overall pick, and they pounced on premier cornerback value. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Keagen Trost in the 213th pick should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
They reached a country mile for Kalil Alexander at the Round 7 slot, and the board is aghast. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
