The Panthers did not so much draft Dani Dennis-Sutton as overpay for him, 32 picks clear of his grade. It sets an uneasy tone for the weekend. No fireworks, but a solid B.
Getting Bernard where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class. They will regret leaving offensive lineman for another day if the season turns on it. On the needs board they went 4 of 9, with wide receiver the one that mattered most.
The weekend tilted hard toward the defense.
Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 19 they get an island corner at a price that makes it sweeter. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Dani Dennis-Sutton in pick 51 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Germie Bernard in Round 3, Pick 19 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Kaleb Proctor in No. 119 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. It adds depth where they could use a little.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Trey Moore this early at the Round 5 slot. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
They jumped the gun on Nadame Tucker, taking him earlier than his grade liked. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
A reach on Keyshaun Elliott in Round 6, Pick 19; the board had better options right there. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
