The Cardinals did not so much draft Kevin Jennings as overpay for him, 87 picks clear of his grade. It sets an uneasy tone for the weekend. Good, not great, and the B- says as much.
They banked enough surplus on Knight Jr. to cover a lot of smaller sins. That edge rusher hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. They went 4 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
Almost all the early capital went to that side of the ball.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 16 they get a cornerstone up front, though the board says they badly overpaid. Exactly the need they had to hit.
By-the-book stuff, Benjamin Morrison at slot 47 squarely in line with his ranking. It adds depth where they could use a little.
They did well to land Jayden Higgins in pick No. 78, just ahead of his grade. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Taking Demetrius Knight Jr. in the 113th pick is close to grand larceny; a linebacker that good had no business lasting this long. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Kevin Jennings at pick 151 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
