Every swap seemed to tilt away from the Chargers, and the value they bled adds up to real damage. A D- that will need time and luck to look better.
The whole projection now runs through Jayden Daniels; hit there and everything else looks smarter. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped edge rusher, which is a strange place to end up.
The roster is better shaped than it was, with cornerback chief among the fixes. Quantity was the play, for better or worse.
The verdict is not kind, and fairly so; this class has a hill to climb.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 6 they get a seam-stretching tight end. A clean fit for the roster.
In the 7th overall pick they get a passer to set the clock by at fair value. A real need, handled.
They took Kris Abrams-Draine at par in pick 38, which is nothing to complain about. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Josh Newton at the Round 2 slot is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A clean, defensible pick in slot 70 with a little surplus value in Trey Benson. A need, and now a little less of one.
