You can hear the double-takes from here. The Cardinals took Tommy Mellott at Round 7, Pick 32, roughly 91 spots before his name belonged.
That running back hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. They banked enough surplus on Bond to cover a lot of smaller sins. The roster is better shaped than it was, with quarterback chief among the fixes.
The trenches got the money picks, top to bottom.
Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 16 they get a quarterback's worst nightmare, though the board says they badly overpaid. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Isaiah Bond at Round 2, Pick 15 is money in the bank, a wide receiver taken below his worth. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
No edge and no loss on Omarr Norman-Lott in No. 78; it is a wash and a sensible one. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Chris Paul Jr. in the 113th overall pick is fair value, right on his grade. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Willie Lampkin at the 151st pick is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Tommy Mellott in slot 248 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
