This is the pick they will still be bragging about in July: Trevor Etienne, the No. 94 name on the board, stolen at pick 147. It nets out to a B, which feels about right.
Leaving offensive lineman unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. The cost of the Smith reach is exactly the players who went right after him. It is a bet on later, and a defensible one for a team playing the long game.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the offensive lineman spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
They did well to land Jack Sawyer in the 31st pick, just ahead of his grade. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
No drama and no debate, Aeneas Peebles went about where he belonged in pick 51. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Xavier Nwankpa in the 83rd overall pick is a gift, value that borders on unfair. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Jordan Hancock in No. 115 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Trevor Etienne in the Round 5 slot should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
A reach on Tim Smith in slot 153; the board had better options right there. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
They took CJ Dippre at par in pick No. 179, which is nothing to complain about. It fills a real need, too.
Bru McCoy at Round 6, Pick 25 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. The roster fit checks out.
Tyler Batty at the Round 7 slot is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Kyle McCord at pick No. 223 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the quarterback. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
