Somewhere a scout is still blinking. The Falcons spent No. 239 on Joe Fagnano, a name the board had a full 73 spots lower.
They banked enough surplus on Taaffe to cover a lot of smaller sins. That running back hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. Offensive lineman is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
The trade work was a quiet net positive.
Good work on the whole, with running back the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
They did well to land Chase Bisontis in the 58th overall pick, just ahead of his grade. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Dontay Corleone at pick 79 is the proof. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Jake Golday at pick No. 91 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
They robbed the room for Treydan Stukes here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Taking Michael Taaffe in Round 4, Pick 27 is close to grand larceny; a safety that good had no business lasting this long. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Jaeden Roberts at the Round 5 slot. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
The board fumbled Kendrick Law all the way to pick 215, and they scooped it up. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
They paid up for Brandon Cleveland at the 220th overall pick when waiting would have done the job. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
A clean, defensible pick in Round 7, Pick 15 with a little surplus value in Riley Nowakowski. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
A real head-scratcher, Joe Fagnano in pick No. 239 is miles ahead of his ranking. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
