The search is over. The Commanders handed the keys to Caleb Williams, and the whole operation now runs on his development. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B-.
Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Abrams-Draine. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped wide receiver, which is a strange place to end up. The Sanders reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade.
The offense got the lion's share of the attention.
A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 2 they get the arm they will build around. A real need, handled.
Tyler Guyton at the 36th overall pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
They liked Ja'Tavion Sanders enough to skip the value, taking him in pick No. 40. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
By-the-book stuff, Junior Colson at the Round 3 slot squarely in line with his ranking. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
No edge and no loss on Matt Goncalves in Round 4, Pick 1; it is a wash and a sensible one. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Marshawn Kneeland at the 103rd pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
They read the board right and Kris Abrams-Draine was the payoff at pick 138. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
