New England Patriots

The Patriots finally solved quarterback, and it carried them to a D.

The move everyone will second-guess came early. The Patriots reached some 98 spots for Devin Culp, and value like that does not grow back. Hard to defend, and the D reflects that.

Jayden Daniels is the bet, and the class will be judged on how it pays off. The dealing is the wound this class cannot quite close.

If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through wide receiver. The Arnold value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere.

Add it up and it is a weekend the front office will hope everyone forgets, wide receiver very much included.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.8 · Pick 8 · Jayden Daniels · QB · rank 7
In the 8th overall pick they get a franchise quarterback at fair value. A real need, handled.
R2.2 · Pick 34 · Terrion Arnold · CB · rank 19
They let Terrion Arnold come to them and pounced at No. 34. A minor itch, scratched.
R2.3 · Pick 35 · Jordan Morgan · OT · rank 37
Jordan Morgan in pick 35 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
R2.15 · Pick 47 · Edgerrin Cooper · LB · rank 43
Edgerrin Cooper at pick No. 47 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the linebacker. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
R2.21 · Pick 53 · Braden Fiske · DL · rank 53
By-the-book stuff, Braden Fiske at Round 2, Pick 21 squarely in line with his ranking. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
R3.4 · Pick 68 · Patrick Paul · OT · rank 67
Patrick Paul in the Round 3 slot is fair value, right on his grade. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
R4.4 · Pick 104 · Theo Johnson · TE · rank 135
Theo Johnson at the Round 4 slot is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. The roster fit checks out.
R4.20 · Pick 120 · Mohamed Kamara · DL-EDGE · rank 129
They paid up for Mohamed Kamara at the 120th overall pick when waiting would have done the job. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
R4.21 · Pick 121 · Cody Schrader · RB · rank 154
Cody Schrader in slot 121 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
R6.7 · Pick 182 · Dwight McGlothern · CB · rank 174
A tidy bit of business in the 182nd pick, where Dwight McGlothern graded well above the range. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
R6.19 · Pick 194 · Brevyn Spann-Ford · TE · rank 237
A big swing on Brevyn Spann-Ford at pick No. 194, well ahead of any board in the building. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
R7.13 · Pick 233 · Devin Culp · TE · rank 331
A real head-scratcher, Devin Culp in Round 7, Pick 13 is miles ahead of his ranking. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
