Nobody had Logan Brown this high, and it is not close. The Texans reached 71 spots to get him at Round 3, Pick 11. The board pushed back all weekend, and the D- is the result.
They handed away value on the phones that the picks cannot earn back. Neal at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster.
They will answer for taking safety early while edge rusher and quarterback went begging. They punted on edge rusher, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.
Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and edge rusher is still a hole.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 25 they get a matchup problem out wide, outstanding value to boot. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
A safety of that caliber at the 42nd pick is the definition of value, full stop. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
No drama and no debate, Tyler Warren went about where he belonged in pick No. 43. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Benjamin Morrison in the Round 2 slot is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. It adds depth where they could use a little.
They paid sticker price for Deone Walker in the 64th overall pick, and that is fine. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
A wild overpay on Logan Brown in No. 75, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Demetrius Knight Jr. in No. 89 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A need, and now a little less of one.
The eyebrow-raiser of the weekend. They went safety with Andrew Mukuba while clear needs at edge rusher and quarterback sat open.
Circle this one: Devin Neal at Round 4, Pick 25 is a fall that decides a draft. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Hayden Conner at the 165th pick is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Somehow Jared Wilson was still sitting there in pick 241, and they pounced on premier offensive lineman value. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
