Start where it matters. The Patriots took Drake Maye to run the offense for the next decade, and every other decision this weekend bends around that one. More right than wrong, and a B- to match.
They are betting Steele proves the room right and everyone else wrong. The Jones pick alone nudges the whole weekend up a notch.
They will regret leaving interior defensive lineman for another day if the season turns on it.
All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 3 they get a passer to set the clock by at fair value.
Jordan Morgan is a better player than slot 34 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
They paid up for Malachi Corley at pick No. 68 when waiting would have done the job. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Marshawn Kneeland at Round 4, Pick 3 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Jarrian Jones at the Round 5 slot is the proof. A minor need, but a need all the same.
A straight-up fair deal on Josh Proctor at the 182nd pick, value and slot in agreement. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Jha'Quan Jackson at the 224th overall pick. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Carson Steele at pick 232 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. It fills a real need, too.
