When a board-topper like Isaiah Davis slides to the Round 6 slot, you do not overthink it, and the Cowboys did not.
The linebacker hole is the one line item this class does not answer. The roster is better shaped than it was, with wide receiver chief among the fixes. The trenches got the money picks, top to bottom.
Good work on the whole, with linebacker the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 24th overall pick they get a double-digit-sack hope, and a steal at that. More want than need.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing T'Vondre Sweat in slot 56. A need, and now a little less of one.
You do not let a wide receiver like Jermaine Burton reach pick No. 87 and blink. They did not. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Taking Trevor Keegan in Round 5, Pick 38 is close to grand larceny; an offensive lineman that good had no business lasting this long. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
They will replay Isaiah Davis at pick 216 for years; that is how good the value is. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
The board fumbled Fabien Lovett all the way to the 233rd pick, and they scooped it up. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
M.J. Devonshire in the Round 7 slot is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
