Somewhere a scout is still blinking. The Patriots spent Round 5, Pick 6 on Fadil Diggs, a name the board had a full 88 spots lower.
On value alone, Reed makes the weekend a net positive. The trade ledger is the best part of the whole weekend.
For all the activity, quarterback went untouched, which is hard to explain. Adding Jaylon Johnson by trade rounds out the weekend beyond the rookies.
Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 4 they get a cornerstone up front at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Elic Ayomanor at Round 3, Pick 5 is the proof. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
By-the-book stuff, Devin Neal at pick No. 77 squarely in line with his ranking. A need, and now a little less of one.
You do not let a linebacker like Danny Stutsman reach the Round 4 slot and blink. They did not. A minor itch, scratched.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Fadil Diggs in slot 145, miles early. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
No edge and no loss on Cam Jackson in the 219th pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They talked themselves into Logan Parr at the 222nd overall pick, and the board did not agree. The roster fit checks out.
Steal is underselling it; Jaylen Reed at slot 240 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
