The best pick of the weekend was also the simplest. The Cowboys watched Jack Bech slide 181 picks past his grade and did not hesitate.
The tight end spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. Wide receiver was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 14 they get a lockdown presence outside at a price that makes it sweeter. Exactly the need they had to hit.
You do not let a running back like Ashton Jeanty reach No. 44 and blink. They did not. A need, and now a little less of one.
A top-tier quarterback at a bargain, Cam Ward in Round 3, Pick 12, plain and simple. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Armand Membou at the 117th pick is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Somehow Jahdae Barron was still sitting there in the Round 5 slot, and they pounced on premier cornerback value. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
The board fumbled Walter Nolen all the way to pick 171, and they scooped it up. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
A wide receiver of that caliber at the 174th overall pick is the definition of value, full stop. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Circle this one: T.J. Sanders at slot 204 is a fall that decides a draft. It fills a real need, too.
They robbed the room for Josaiah Stewart here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. A minor itch, scratched.
Steal is underselling it; Demetrius Knight Jr. at No. 239 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
They will replay Jack Bech at the Round 7 slot for years; that is how good the value is. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
