This is the pick they will still be bragging about in July: Theo Wease, the No. 133 name on the board, stolen at Round 5, Pick 20.
They will regret leaving edge rusher for another day if the season turns on it. They are betting Trotter Jr. proves the room right and everyone else wrong.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the edge rusher spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 28 they get a three-down second-level presence, a steep price for the projection. More want than need.
Kalen King at the 60th overall pick is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
No edge and no loss on Sedrick Van Pran in slot 72; it is a wash and a sensible one. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
MarShawn Lloyd in the Round 3 slot is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
They paid sticker price for Sataoa Laumea in pick 137, and that is fine. It fills a real need, too.
Somehow Theo Wease was still sitting there in Round 5, Pick 20, and they pounced on premier wide receiver value. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A conviction pick on Andrew Raym at the 172nd pick that the board grades a round light. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
The board had Jaylin Simpson higher than No. 178, and the cornerback fell to them anyway. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
A premium they did not need to pay, Jontrey Hunter a notch or two before his time. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
