The best pick of the weekend was also the simplest. The Packers watched DJ James slide 38 picks past his grade and did not hesitate.
The edge rusher spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. Every board in the league had Cooper lower, and that gap is the story.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the edge rusher spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 25 they get protection for the quarterback. A real need, handled.
A reach for Edgerrin Cooper in pick 41; a little patience would have been rewarded. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
They did well to land T.J. Tampa in the 58th overall pick, just ahead of his grade. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Kiran Amegadjie at No. 88 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
DJ James in pick No. 91 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
They took Isaac Guerendo at par in the 126th pick, which is nothing to complain about. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Beau Brade in the Round 5 slot is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
