The Cowboys spent real capital to be 187 picks early on Gerry Bohanon, and the board is going to hold them to it.
The Sanders steal is the beam this whole class leans on. They punted on cornerback, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. Wide receiver was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
Good work on the whole, with cornerback the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
A quiet steal in Round 1, Pick 12: Ashton Jeanty for less than the market said. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Jalen Royals at No. 44 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Circle this one: Jihaad Campbell at slot 76 is a fall that decides a draft. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
They reached a country mile for Dont'e Thornton Jr. at pick 148, and the board is aghast. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
A running back of that caliber at pick No. 168 is the definition of value, full stop. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Hayden Conner at the Round 5 slot is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
You do not let a safety like Robert Spears-Jennings reach the 173rd overall pick and blink. They did not. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
They will replay Cody Simon at No. 186 for years; that is how good the value is. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Raheim Sanders at pick No. 209 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
A real head-scratcher, Gerry Bohanon in Round 7, Pick 31 is miles ahead of his ranking. The roster fit checks out.
