Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the Bills were there to profit. Josh Cameron, the No. 187 name on the board, should have been long gone before pick No. 220. No fireworks, but a solid B.
They punted on interior defensive lineman, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. If Elarms-Orr pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about. They left with linebacker solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
Nearly every premium pick went to that side of the ball.
All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 26 they get a sideline-to-sideline linebacker, and a steal at that. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Michael Taaffe at the Round 3 slot is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
They read the board right and De'Zhaun Stribling was the payoff at No. 126. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
The board had Charles Demmings higher than slot 165, and the cornerback fell to them anyway. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
They paid a round early for Kaleb Elarms-Orr in pick 168, more than the board wanted. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Matt Gulbin in the 182nd pick is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
A top-tier wide receiver at a bargain, Josh Cameron in the 220th overall pick, plain and simple. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
