The Patriots spent the weekend waiting on one name, and it fell: Josaiah Stewart, the No. 41 name on the board, in No. 238.
Leaving interior defensive lineman unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. On the needs board they went 4 of 8, with edge rusher the one that mattered most.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but interior defensive lineman.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 4th pick they get a potential shutdown corner at fair value. Need was not the driver here.
They robbed the room for Wyatt Milum here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Jalen Royals in the 69th overall pick. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Steal is underselling it; Tate Ratledge at pick No. 77 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Ashton Jeanty at Round 4, Pick 3 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. The roster fit checks out.
Somehow Jihaad Campbell was still sitting there in the Round 5 slot, and they pounced on premier linebacker value. A minor itch, scratched.
They barely believed it either: Tre Harris still on the board at pick 217. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Lander Barton at No. 220 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
A top-tier edge rusher at a bargain, Josaiah Stewart in the Round 7 slot, plain and simple. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
